The most common two ways to redecorate walls are painting and wallpapering. Compared with wallpapering, however, painting is a more artistic way. This process requires more time, greater effort and of course skill. Painting also includes special techniques to enrich the color and texture of a room. I will just share basic tips and techniques here, but beginners can use them to get impressive results.
Several things you need to prepare first when redecorating walls. Before you repaint the walls in a new color, you should sand them to get a smooth surface. Look also what exists around you, do you find any furniture pieces there? Make sure to cover the pieces with old papers or dishcloths to prevent paint color from dropping on them. Don’t forget to buy good rollers or rags as the main tools for painting.
After having good preparation, it comes the time to choose color. The color you choose will greatly determine the look and atmosphere of a room. Think about whether you want the space to have walls that are able to coordinate with sunlight. Do you want to create spacious appearance, dark feel, or dramatic nuance? Light color is a nice choice for bringing calm into a room. If you also want to evoke attractiveness there, then use stencils. Make them by yourself using strong cards. Cut the cards into the shapes that you want, and then attach them on a wall. The next step is applying a small amount of paint with tapping motion.
Glazing is the next technique of painting. It requires you to apply a special liquid over the basic color. The liquid will dry longer than the paint, so you have an opportunity to create contrastive and dramatic effects. Stripes can also result in impressive walls. Attach tape strips on the walls horizontally or vertically, and then paint the gaps between them. Try the above techniques in your home interior. If you've mastered them, you may continue to look for advanced techniques.
